I do not offer direct billing, but you will be issued a receipt upon payment that can be submitted to your provider. While many insurance plans provide coverage for psychotherapy, it is your responsibility to ensure you are covered for services offered by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I have completed a Master’s in Counselling Psychology (MACP) with Yorkville University and am registered and accountable to the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO). Qualifying psychotherapists are required to complete a set amount of supervision hours before they transfer to Registered Psychotherapist category. Currently my paperwork is being processed and I hope to be able to drop my Qualifying status soon. See more about my approach and continuous education here.

Sessions are offered virtually at this time and I do not offer in-person sessions. Virtual sessions offer the convenience and comfort of attending sessions from your own space. While continued research is needed, studies have shown that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person services.

Consults are a low-pressure opportunity for a meet and greet, where we can determine if we are a good fit. I’ll provide you with some more information about my services. If you’re coming in with specific questions you are welcome to ask them, but I am also happy to guide the consultation.
If we decide to move forward we’ll book your first session and I’ll send you an intake form by email to be filled out before your first session. There is no obligation to move forward after a consultation.
If it would be helpful to have some touch stones to help guide the conversation here are some questions it might be helpful to reflect on before a consultation include:
What is going on in your life right that brought you to seek out therapy? Is there anything that feels most important to address?
If you’ve had therapy before, what was helpful or unhelpful about it?
If you haven’t had therapy, do you have any questions about what therapy looks like?
Are there qualities in a therapist that are important to you?
What are you hoping for out of therapy? Are you looking to get something specific out of our time together or are you still exploring what is needed?
Is there anything else that is important to know about you if we are to begin working together?
Is there anything you need to know about me such as experience, approach etc.?

Our first session is first and foremost a chance to get to know each other. I understand that many clients may be anxious to start therapy and hope you’ll be even a bit more comfortable by the end of the session.
We’ll review informed consent and discuss the process and expectations in therapy. Next, we’ll explore what’s brought you to therapy and if there are any specific changes you’d like to see. If that’s something you’re still exploring, that’s okay too! I may have some questions for you, but we can take a step back if anything is too overwhelming for a first session.

A typical session looks like checking in on how a client has been managing their concerns and anything a client may have been working on between sessions. Then a client may bring forward whatever it is needed. Sometimes there is something recent that needs addressing and sometimes we are following a thread that relates to our deeper work.
-
In most cases I recommend that clients start with weekly appointments for several reasons. The research shows that most clients progress more quickly with more consistent sessions. However, I understand that you may have real-world constraints and may only be able to make bi-weekly appointments work and weekly sessions are not required to get started with me. I do not recommend less than bi-weekly appointments unless we are in a maintenance phase of therapy.

You may be given something to reflect on or some skills to practice in between sessions. I don’t often assign worksheets or workbooks, but am happy to involve them based upon your preference.
