I take a neurodiversity-affirming approach and have sought out training to be able to adjust all of my approaches for neurodivergent clients.
My practice has a focus on supporting those whose neurodivergence was recognized later than childhood, however I work with clients no matter when or if you’ve been diagnosed yet (or want to be). I have the most experience working with ADHDers and Autistic clients.
I am also certified in Inference Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to work with OCD. I am also getting certified in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and am gaining experience with BPD.
I am a queer-affirming therapist. All expressions of gender and sexuality are welcome and appreciated! I have worked with clients of a variety of queer identities. You will have a safe and understanding space with me!
I’d like to respect your preferences. If any language I use does not fit with how you describe your experience feel free to let me know and I will adjust.
Some of the common challenges I support neurodivergent and queer folks with:
Marginalization/Alienation
You might be the black sheep in your family or bullied at school. You may have had negative experiences with authority figures. You may have had to contend with one of the many isms or phobias.
Anxiety/overwhelm
It’s challenging to live in today’s often overwhelming and overstimulating world. I’d love to create a space for you to voice your concerns and help find strategies to better manage your anxiety/overwhelm.
Depression/disconnection
You’re not alone in struggling with depression no matter how isolating it may feel. For many people this has been made worse by struggling to find people you can relate to or having learned to disconnect to protect yourself.
Identity exploration
You may be questioning the possibility of neurodivergence or what a recent diagnosis means for you. You may need a safe space to explore your gender or sexual orientation.
Twice exceptional
2e folks face unique challenges. Not everyone understands that for you “difficult” things might be easy and “easy” things might be difficult. You may find life understimulating, frustrating, and isolating.
Self-compassion
I’d love to help you move away from shame and self-criticism and foster self-compassion. You may be looking to find self-acceptance in a world where you’ve felt othered.
Perfectionism
Many people learned their value was in their accomplishments and have high expectations for themselves. I’ve worked with many post-secondary students or other high achievers.
Relational Trauma
Unfortunately many of us did not get our needs met growing up in our family of origin. You may be looking to change old patterns and identify as a cycle breaker.
Emotional regulation
Do you have deep feelings and struggle to let go of them? On the flip side you may struggle to let yourself feel the big feelings. We can work on recognizing, accepting, and managing your emotions.
People Pleasing
Do you need practice with boundary setting? It’s time to learn how to notice and honour your own needs. I’d like to support you in not giving everything to others without leaving anything for yourself.
Stress/Burnout
Chances are you have a lot to be stressed about. If you’re neurodivergent you’ve likely faced burnout or come close. Let’s find a way to foster some balance in your life.
And more…
Don’t see your concern here, but interested in working together? Please feel free to book a consult. As long as I feel I can effectively meet your needs I am happy to help with whatever has come up in your life.
